i.Inspire i.Make A Difference i.Volunteer i.Scout with 1st Bradley Stoke
13th July 2017
Each year the 1st Bradley Stoke Scout Group hold a family BBQ and Open Evening at their Scout Hut on Brook Way. The idea of the event is to bring everyone who is involved in the group together to showcase the amazing adventures, activities and achievements the young people have done over the last year (as well as the leaders!).
Dunkley’s were invited to go along as they donate their time to do the Scout groups accounts free of charge as a gesture of good will. Tom Bull, Nicole Crompton and Zoe Brophy went along to represent Dunkley’s but also show our link to Scouting through Nicole’s and Zoe’s volunteering with Girlguiding UK, the sister organisation.
The night started off with a group AGM which outlined all the adventures the units had been on during the year including large scale camps and activity days. This was then followed by presentations where 10’s of awards were given out to both the young people and the leaders. They ranged from long service awards to wood beads (leadership qualifications), Chief Scouts awards and the Chief Scout’s personal award which is awarded to recognise an achievement not covered by the criteria for any other awards. It was a fantastic portion of the evening to watch and be involved in.
The event was wrapped up with a fantastic BBQ and a meet and greet with the fantastic volunteers who make the unit what it is. This is where we met Nick, the group chair and Clive, the group scout leader (pictured below) who make a real difference to the young people’s lives.
Overall, the night was full of fun, laughter, food and a lot of spirit! We very much look forward to attending again next year.
